Seoul Series #3
The third Seoul Series is a little bit more focused on different exhibitions and galleries we visited while in Seoul. Some of these are still on so and we encourage you to check them out if you're in Seoul!
Henrik Vibskov at the Daelim Museum
I LOVED this exhibition. It was probably my fave out of the exhibitions mentioned here, probably because how eccentric yet not-so-eccentric it was at the same time. The pieces that stood out to me the most were the flamingo necks that hung from the ceiling as a tribute to Guatemalan funeral rites and "the big wet shiny boobies" (the name!!) To be completely honest, I've never actually seen his work at Paris Fashion Week but have heard that his show is rather non-traditional, focusing more on the performance than just a catwalk.
Frida Kahlo at the Seoul Olympic Museum of Art
This exhibition was curated really beautifully and I especially loved reading Kahlo's quotes on the wall. One that stood out to me the most was:
"I paint myself because I am so often alone and because I am the subject I know best."
I think this quote pretty much sums up her life what with her constant trips to the hospital and a notoriously tumultuous marriage.
Andy Warhol at the DDP
This one was fun to go to, obviously for its content but also because I'd kind of seen it all before at the Andy Warhol Gallery in Pittsburgh when I studied there.
