Hello 2017

Hello 2017

Hi everybody! I meant to get a post up earlier as a way to share some bits of our Edinburgh trip but as usual, things ended up getting a little hectic and there's been some delays... While I finalise the Edinburgh post, I thought I'd throw in a quick update one for this week and come back next week with said Edinburgh post. It is one of my new year's resolutions to post every week after all so you know... Let's see how that goes.

As for me I had a very busy December tying up loose ends for 2016. I flew from Seoul to London to stay for about three weeks and spent the time catching up with friends and family and explored more of London. I managed to land back in Seoul on the 31st, just in time to celebrate the new year with family. I've actually started a new internship and am really enjoying it. I'm looking forward to being in one place for three months (which is how long I have the internship for) and excited to explore the hidden corners of Seoul, although I might have to squeeze in a couple of weekend trips while I'm here and make the most out of being in Asia. So that was a really quick update on what happened/is happening.

To expand a little further from my brief ramble above, I'll say it straight up. 2016 wasn't a great year. Lots and lots and lots of terrible things happened around the world but I wanted to focus on some highlights here on nnyley and talk to you guys about some positive aspects of 2016 for me.

Personally, 2016 was all about strengthening my relationships. I really got to spend a lot of time with my close friends and 2016 was the year we all became even closer (if that's even possible!!). 2016 for me was also the year I really started to think about myself and self love. I've been exercising regularly, learned to say no to a lot of things that I felt pressured to say yes to, and really started to enjoy time on my own.

In terms of travel, I was lucky enough to return to some places that I'd been to before like NYC, Bali, and Paris, but 2016 was also the year of many firsts like Kota Kinabalu, Tallinn, Stockholm, Copenhagen, St Petersburg, and more. I'm excited to plan more trips for 2017 and am currently making a list with Ashley. Here are some ideas:

1. Our dad is in Italy a lot during the year so we really should make the most of it and visit different parts of Italy with him. I'm currently eyeing up Lake Como, Positano, and Cinque Terre.

2. See lots and lots more of Asia. Maybe another visit to Hong Kong or Tokyo?

3. SOUTH AFRICA. Would love to go to Cape Town and later do a safari on the trip.

4. See more of England and go to Oxford, Cambridge, Edinburgh, Bath, and more?

5. Rovaniemi in Finland and see Father Christmas

Looking at nnyley's analytics, 2016 seems to be the year that this blog grew a little (can I say that without sounding big headed?) We created this blog in the summer of 2014 as a way to keep in touch with friends and family and I'm so glad we stuck to it - even if somewhat sporadically... It's been a great way to document what's been going on with us and sharing our experiences with loved ones.

In terms of resolutions for 2017, I read somewhere that there's more of a chance that you'll stick to something if you tell others so here we go:

- Carry on exercising regularly as it keeps me happy and more motivated to do other tasks

- Post once a week on nnyley

- Travel someplace new at least once a month (except until April maybe since I have this internship)

- Learn to speak a new language

I think those are pretty realistic and achievable goals. Hopefully I can look back on this post at the end of this year and tick them all off. Thank you for reading you guys if you got this far and just lastly, leave me a comment below if you have any resolutions as I'd love to hear about them! Have a wonderful start to the new year you guys x
